JAC, the new Cabernet Franc from Querceto di Castellina, has been released
After 5 years’ intense work in the vineyard and in the winery, Jac, the new wine made from a strict selection of 100% Cabernet Franc grapes grown in the “Belvedere” vineyard of the Querceto di Castellina estate at Castellina in Chianti (Siena), is finally on the market. This has always been a pet project of Jacopo Di Battista, owner of the company together with his family, to the extent that he has given the wine his own nickname, Jac, which is what his dearest friends call him.
Jacopo’s passion for Cabernet Franc initiated and has grown alongside his involvement in making wine. At the beginning of his career, he developed a great love for this variety, tasting various expressions of it from all over the world. The idea gradually formed in his mind of creating a distinctive wine, which was different from Sangiovese and could show itself at its best in the rocky soils of Querceto di Castellina, and especially at the altitudes of its vineyards, between 460 and 510 meters above sea level.
The label, too, recalls another of Jacopo’s great loves: that for automobiles. Its unique design seeks to pay homage to the iconic V8 engine, reflecting the refinement, power and balance enclosed in each bottle.
The process that has led to the creation of Jac has been a long one. Assisted from the very beginning by enologist Gioia Cresti, Jacopo has never lost sight of his objective: to produce a wine that represents the quintessence of elegance and enthusiasm.
It is, therefore, a wine that aims to be an absolute expression of its creator, reflecting as it does his passions and distinctive traits.
Querceto di Castellina is a family-run, certified organic estate in the heart of the Chianti Classico D.O.C.G.; it covers a total of fifty hectares of land, of which around eleven are under vine.
The estate is situated at Castellina in Chianti, on its border with Radda, just a few kilometers from the Province of Florence. This position, which possesses unique characteristics, offers the vineyards extremely varied conditions. Like all “frontier” areas, it represents a meeting place of different situations which, in this case, enrich the wines with a whole range of nuances, conferred by the terroir, climate and exposition.
The vineyards, completely surrounded by woodland, all lie on the gentle hills that frame the estate’s buildings, at altitudes that vary from a minimum of 460 to a maximum of 510 meters above sea level.
“Belvedere” is the property’s principal vineyard, in which the best Sangiovese grapes are selected, used 100% to produce the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione wine called “Sei”, as well as the Merlot for “Podalirio” and the Cabernet Franc. Planted in 2003, it covers an area of around 6.6 hectares and is planted with high-density vines.
Querceto di Castellina is also a location where you can spend time discovering the traditions and the food and wine culture of one of Italy’s most fascinating and renowned wine-producing regions.
The little fifteenth century hamlet that contains the estate’s holiday accommodation includes nine apartments, a suite, and a splendid swimming pool, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view.
Welcoming visitors is a fundamental part of the estate’s project: this is an important experiential instrument whereby you can immerse yourself totally in a place of thrilling beauty, breathing in a healthy lifestyle that reinforces the powerful links you feel with nature, the seasons and the products of the land, whilst also emphasizing the traditions of the area and the values of hospitality.
Every summer, dinners are organized in the vineyards; these have become unmissable appointments for lovers of food and wine.
